Taking Home of the White Shadow to a new direction

I'm struggling with a decision right now. The bill has arrived for the web hosting for my sites, and frankly, I'm wondering if it's worth it. Should I let it go, should I find a new venue for it, or should I just sent out another check?

The site has been a source of pride for me (up since 1995, remodeled twice, frequently updated until two years ago), but now, when I look at it, the sheer volume of work needed to update the HTML and get it out of the nineties staggers me. I don't receive a lot of feedback, maybe one email every three months.

What do you think?

I come here every month or so to check out what news there is. I use to come more often but things have been very slow Gatchaman wise. I say do what feels right to you. Don’t get me wrong, I love your site and it’s the only Gatchaman site I visit but it’s not worth it if you aren’t into doing it anymore. Think about yourself, not us. Although I would be lying if I said I wasn’t sad to see it go.

This is the only Gatchaman site I visit. I've been a fan since BotP aired in the late 70s(?)/early 80s in the UK.
I wanted to say thank you for taking the time you have done in putting these sites together.
It's been great following the drama over the Imagi film, and you've introduced me to some great toy sites.
You'll be missed, but totally understand where you're coming from.
Maybe it's time to do something different.

It would be a very sad day on the internets if the White Shadow lost it's home.

I have found your site "Home of the White Shadow" a very useful resource. I would be unhappy if you took it down, but I can also understand not having the time or energy to keep it running as you would like it.

I would hate to see your wonderful site disappear from the Gatch fandom. I will understand if finances play a roll in the results. Your site has helped many in their quest to write cannon based fics. Thank you for your time and effort in creating such useful knowledge of everything Gatch.

I've been a huge fan of your site since finding it back in 2005. I agree with an earlier post, you must do what is right for you even though it will be sad to see it go. If you don't have the time or the resources to keep "Home of the White Shadow" running, that's totally understandable.
Best of luck!

Hi Wendy,

I see the site has gone indeed today. I understand your decision although I'm sorry to see Home of the White Shadow dissapear from the web.

Do you know archive.org? I just checked and your site is there too: http://bit.ly/hsbxpq. It's not the same but at least we can enjoy your good and beautiful work over there!
Will the blog still be here? I am still reading although I only come back one a while to check out if there are updates. :-)

Kind regards,

Trudi

I'm a fan of your site and the work you have continued to contribute to it. I love these characters and that will never change; I'm sure you feel the same, even though we both know that media changes daily (if not sooner).

Consider this: when Joel Hodgson of MST3K fame gave up his "Gizmonics" website, it quickly became a portal to a...more mature site than most MST3K fans were accustomed to. Do you want that to happen to the White Shadow?

I hope you decide or are in the process of modernizing the site. I wouldn't have the diecast God Phoenix if not for your site. I'm still hoping for a OVA God Phoenix model and working Jun yo-yo. There was a fairly recent release of Gatchaman vehicles that I haven't seen a review for. Also, we still don't have a nice statue set of the team and there are really good models coming out these days. So, there is a lot to hope for with Gatchaman. Keep the site going for the fans!

Your sites rock! I don't think anyone else on the planet was as commited as you to keeping people up to date on BotP news.
I totally understand your dilemma about continuing sites.
Just know people do appreciate your work. I'm not sure if my messages have come through in the past but like I said above, You Rock!

Please don't let Home of the White Shadow die, it is (was) one of the better Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets sites. It doesn't matter if the look (or under the hood) is dated, that can addressed in time. The CONTENT is what's important! Hope to see it back on line soon.

Please continue to keep the site going. It's really the only site with so much information on all things Gatchaman.

Hi Wendy, long time visitor, first time poster here. I remember back in 1996/7? when you were the first Gatchaman website I came across after learning the G-Force dub had Japanese roots. From your site I went onto find Gatchaman Forever, Jun's Snack Bar, Lori's Fanfiction, Alara's Cross Karakoram, and Transmute! most of which have seen their coming and going. It's up to you to decide what to do with the website, but I want to thank you for so many years of fun and nostalgia.

Although it would be sad to see you site vanish off the net entirely, you should at least stick a page up redirecting to this blog as White Shadow is linked Everywhere related to Gatchaman!

Please, Wendy, definitely keep the site up! I'm a long-time follower and would hate to see it disappear!

Dear Wendy

OMG! I can't believe my only factual resource site anything Gatchaman is no longer! I've been a big fan since I was a small kid in the 70's. (USA version) You will be truly missed and the very best wishes for you in the future.

Sincerely

Hello again

I searched the web for an alternative site with no prevail. Are the Gatchaman fan base getting too old or simply Gatchaman now a thing of the past? I sincerely hope not! Trust me, I'm nostalgic as the next; but keep an open mind to fresh ideas...popularity most likely will pick up a bit with the promise of Imagi's movie with a new generation.

I'm so sad to see this site go away, it was my primary reference for Gatchaman when I wanted it. I pointed people to it or told them to google "Home of the White Shadow" if they wanted to know all there was to know about Gatchaman.

I hope you don't mind, but not completely trusting in sites like the Internet Archive and the Wayback machine, I took an afternoon a few days ago and made a complete backup of the entire site on my drive. Pretty sure I got all the various links and images. No intent to publish or poach or anything. Just want it to be there "just in case". I simply don't want "White Shadow" completely lost to time.

I love this site, like the others said I found it useful since!
I may be a young Gatchaman fan (currently 17) but I really do enjoy your blogs and everything, It may be 2011, but Gatchaman never gets old and the fans either, Home of the White Shadow, is orginal artpiece.
